My influence must be rubbing off on Cameron. Not only did he express that he wanted to find a way to save all of our candle containers after they’ve been fully used, but he actually took time to experiment. He figured out a way to not only get rid of the excess wax, but also found multiple ways to reuse the containers. I’m a proud wife to say the least.
The best part? It’s 100% mess-free. That’s right, no chipping away at hardened candle wax or excess ash to clean up afterward. Discover “How to Transform Candles into Household Containers” into home décor with 3 simple steps.
+ Bring water to a boil
Once your candle’s life has come to an end, follow the half-inch rule and leave a small layer of candle wax on the bottom of the container for safety measures. This will prevent any potential heat damage to the surface of your counter or to the actual candle container itself. In a separate pot, bring 1-2 cups of water to boil, or if you prefer, use an electric kettle for boiling. Once water has come to a boil, let it cool for 1-minute before gently pouring into the candle container. Fill boiling water to the rim of the container.
+ Cool the candle container
As you pour the boiling water over the wax, you’ll start to notice oils rising to the surface. Allow the container to cool for a few minutes to avoid any potential burns and then gently pick up the container to move it into your refrigerator. Allow the container to sit for a few hours, allowing time for the wax to rise to the surface as it solidifies.
+ Remove candle wax & enjoy
When removing the candle container from the refrigerator, you’ll notice all of the excess wax and oils have hardened into one full piece of wax floating above the water inside the container. Remove the piece of solidified wax and pour out excess water. The candle container should be fairly spotless at this stage, but feel free to clean the candle container to your heart’s content. Once fully cleaned, transform your candle holder into a makeup brush holder, coin collector, or whatever comes to your creative mind.
