As many of you may know, my heart took me back to the beautiful Bay Area to reunite with my boyfriend, childhood friends, and family. That being said, as California prices continue to climb, my mind has started to wander outside of the Golden State. I blame wonderfully addictive websites such as Zillow and Redfin for this sudden urge to purge my California lifestyle. Why settle for struggle when we could opt for a life of luxe for less? In a nutshell, this not-so-southern-belle is embracing the country life in Nashville, Tennessee.
This itch to ditch the beautiful state of California started last fall when I embarked on a quest to root myself in a culture rich with voodoo and mystery for our 2017 New Orleans Halloween celebration. However, what I found was city that came alive with the sound of jazz, freshly baked beignets, and friendly locals. Ever since New Orleans stole my heart, I’ve been on a mission to immerse myself in Southern culture and discover what these beautiful country cities have to offer tourists and locals alike, which led me to my next destination… Nashville, Tennessee.
Despite our snobbish attitude concerning non-Californian weather, Nashville’s thunderstorms provided great relief from the beating sun during our walking tour of Downtown, including the world-famous Lower Broadway. While Broadway may be considered the tourist area of Nashville, it’s a must-hit for first-timers. Discover what Music City really has to offer with live entertainment, drunken eats, bars and nightclubs, such as Acme Feed & Seed, FLG House, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar, The Stage on Broadway, and Tin Roof. If wild nights out aren’t your thing, Nashville’s neighborhoods have plenty for you to check out, including local favorites such as Midtown, 12South, the Gulch, and more.
The East & West coasts always seem to be in a rush. We scramble to get an hour workout in (if we’re lucky) before burning physical, mental, and emotional fuel for 8+ hours at work, only to exhaust ourselves at the end of the day. We have this need to make sh*t happen, but in the South, life just seems to flow along and I like that. But for all I know, I could be terribly wrong. I could be romanticizing these experiences because I was escaping reality through vacation travels, but there’s just something about that Southern living that has me hooked… Who knows what the future holds? I may be a born & raised Californian, but perhaps I’ll become a Southern Belle transplant someday. Until then, I plan on jet-setting back to Nashville and other must-hit Southern cities for further investigation. Now, it’s your turn.
